Info:
Chuck Finders was one of the West Coast’s top drivers and builders of Willys Gassers. At the 1962 NHRA Winternationals, he took A/GS in the Hirshfield Automotive-sponsored, Dodge-powered ’33 Willys. For 1963, he teamed with Eddie Thompson to field the Willys with an unblown-Chevy to become the fastest A/G with speeds of 128 mph and a 10.75 second e.t. Late in ’63, he joined with Stone Woods and Cook to field his ’33 Willys with one of SW&C’s 400 cu. in. blown Olds engines. The car was named the “Dark Horse”.
During this time, he stood-in for several of SW&C’s commitments and was matched with the “Big John” Mazmanian’s ’41 Willys at the ’64 Bakersfield Smokers Meet where he turned a 10.50, but blew the big Olds. His relationship with the SW&C team lasted five months and came to an end as Doug Cook and Tim Woods realized that it took Chrysler power to be successful in A/GS. This car eventually became the Altizer Finders & Kibler “World’s Fastest and Quickest Chevy-powered A/GS”.
